Strategy scholars and consultants have advised organizations to look North and have a North Star in working with strategy. This made me wonder: How do the most interesting companies in the Nordics do strategy? And what can we learn from them?
Many Nordic companies are among the most well known brands in the world – such as Lego, Spotify, Ikea, Volvo and Nokia. The Nordics are known for being highly democratic, inclusive, electrical and digital – and for being among the most happy regions in the world. In this sense one could argue that they give a glipse into a wishful future. Building on these strengths, many Nordic companies build on ways of thinking and values that set them apart from companies in other regions. They think differently about value in strategy.
